Zingerman's Deli located in Ann Arbor, MI has authentic Parmesan Reggiano from Italy. Cost is around $15-20 per/lb. Their wide variety of high quality cheeses range far beyond real, authentic Reggiano. If you can't make the trip to Michigan, you can have them ship you REAL cheeses, meats, breads sourced from THE very best countries around the world. Check them out at www.Zingermans.com

Well, the high price comes from greed that it essential ingredient of this cheese. >It requires three bacteria specific only to one region, so it can't be made anywhere else. >There is a problem with counterfeit cheese in the world. So essentially it can be made anywhere knowing which bacteria has to be used (not counting counterfeit which is completely different). It's simply not allowed because of law. It's like saying that corn is extremely expensive and can only be grown in one country. Why? Because they all agreed that no one else will do that. I think it has perfect balance right now. I bought Parmegiano Regano quite often (I use it mostly as spice) but I also tried other Parmesan. It's similar, for some use it's even better to buy more cheaper "counterfeit" Parmesan than go on with original one with the same price (and less amount). Parmesan right now is just kind of cheese and Parmegiano Regano is exactly trademarked product from this region. That's how it should be. One should not forbid making anything in other place, it just has to be properly signed so you can distinguish Parmegiano from Asia and Parmegiano from Italy.

    Kīgankurisuchanmaiyā2 hari yang lalu

Maybe the reason it is so often “faked” is because where it comes from doesn’t matter. This whole protected origin bs is stupid.

  22. Kīgankurisuchanmaiyā

    Kīgankurisuchanmaiyā2 hari yang lalu

Redwarrior11 I could understand banning people from claiming their cheese came from Italy when it didn’t, but banning anyone from calling their cheese what it basically is is just dumb. And that beef thing is dumb as well.

  23. Redwarrior11

    Redwarrior112 hari yang lalu

The protected origin is more of a seal of quality for the cheese products in Europe. They don't want shoddy counterfeit cheese to be recognized as italian-made, kinda like how Australia bans cow imports from other countries to dissociate themselves from shoddy foreign beef.

major fault line ends in northern Italy. May your wheels always be safe. Round things roll. a not so true story: One day, a quake arrived and away they all went. into the ocean and floated to greece where, after beng in salt water forever, they became feta. This is how the greeks got feta cheese.

I AM SORRY BUT I FIND IT HIGHLY DISGUSTING THAT THEY ARE NOT USING THINGS TO MAKE THE WHOLE PROCESS MUCH MORE HYGIENIC THAN WHATEVER IT CURRENTLY MIGHT BE !!!! AT THE VERY LEAST THEY SHOULD BE WEARING A BEARD NET (ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A BEARD OBVIOUSLY), GLOVES, A HAIR NET, SOME SORT OF MASK TO MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING FROM THEIR FACE AND MOUTH GETS INTO THE CHEESE AND SOMETHING TO MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING FROM THEIR CLOTHING GETS INTO THE CHEESE !!!! WITH ALL OF THAT BEING SAID I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I DO ENJOY EATING PARMESAN CHEESE. I ESPECIALLY ENJOY EATING PARMESAN CHEESE WHEN I EAT IT WITH SPAGHETTI !!!!
