So... Water Bears are the first known living creatures to die on the moon? I mean some of them must have died in the crash, resilient but not immortal.

Okay wow. that... wow! That is so freaking cool! And terrifying! So if I understand that link correctly... A nuclear explosion in space would lack the thermal blast that is so destructive as demonstrated on ground level detonations, instead the real danger would come from the super intense radiation that would be magnified in a vacuum? Would that mean that if one was to apply nukes in wartime again, in a modern setting (please dear God no), if they were to be deployed to detonate outside the atmosphere then they would be more useful for knocking out communications (presumably satellites, radio waves, wireless communication etc). Is this the same thing as an electromagnetic pulse as used in sci-fi movies etc? And would that mean if you were to send nukes out into space to explode an oncoming meteor (as also demonstrated in pop culture) it would more than likely be a useless endeavor? Yay I have so many more questions now.

Great video Kyle! What you said on the consciousness question reminds me of a discussion in my ethics class about Sam Harris' book The Moral Landscape. He puts forth his argument of how we can ground ethics in life by taking the well being of conscious creatures as the foundation of our morality. Very thought provoking book!

Why did they come up with the hulk gaining his mass from another dimension ? Couldn’t it be more plausible that the hulk directly converts energy into matter ? He’s incredibly radioactive and thus has a lot of energy which he can convert 🤔 his anger could cause some sort of nuclear reaction which generates the energy. And as for the shockwave in space, probably not! Although having a vacuum between you and the explosion would mean any debree which would on earth have its energy disapated by friction from contact with the atmosphere would travel indefinitely towards you with the initial explosion velocity. Depending on distance I’d rather be hit by a shockwave on earth.

The ethics behind eating another lifeform because its not intelligent are at best silly and worst unfounded. The ONLY things that should realistically matter in that regards is HOW the meat was obtained, and is eating it harmful? I personally have no issue with the idea of cannibalism but I have many issues with things like say, murder. That being said I dont see a moral problem with consuming meat from an intelligent creature, but killing to obtain that meat or killing for sport is a completely different issue.

Hey Kyle, quick correction... if you shrunk down you would freeze to death, because your metabolism isn't fast enough to produce heat at those small scales... a shrew for example has a resting heart rate that would be considered lethal in humans, and still barely produces enough heat to live

@Because Science. - some are addicted to the rules of "physics" which, let's face it, are incredibly limited to the definitions of "science". Here are a few basic bits for you - "alien" refers to "sentient" (see how quickly the definitions accumulate?) life forms with NO human DNA. "Extra-terrestrial" refers to non-terrans with at least a tiny bit of human DNA, which (no surprise) is spread throughout not only our galaxy but the physical universe as well. Here's a bit you will discard because it does not fit your definitions: Making contact with E.T. or extradimensional (the "good guys" or the ones who would exploit their own mothers it's your choice) is so easy you wouldn't believe it and oh my! Many non-human civilizations are indeed "telepathic" but they prefer the word "telempathic" as that refers to feelings and images, not language. Viruses are sentient beings but hey, you're the scientist. Orcas, really? So you're a vegan? Who kills your dinner? And, oh yes, some E.T.s are so human-like in looks that they indeed (not a lot) live among humans. Loosen up, expert.

Why does it matter if another animal has consciousness or not? Ever since I was young, I've always considered literally everything to have a consciousness. There was never any debate on how small or insignificant something was. Even something like a tree feeling when you broke a branch off of it. A bear or a lion would eat you in a heartbeat. They need to in order to survive. They don't care about your intelligence. So why should you? I don't understand the correlation between prey being conscious and you wanting/needing to consume it. Now, if the animal was going extinct, that's an entirely different story.

Well I'm not sure but I think Kyle is wrong about the pressure wave stuff. An explosion is more or less a very fast change in phase (in most cases from solid to vapor) causing the material to enlarge its volume very quickly which is for example forcing a bullet out of a gun that is spreading out in a sphere. Something like black powder already includes oxygen that is needed for an explosive oxidation (so it's possible to fire a black powder gun in space but it's illegal because there are contracts about a peaceful way of using space) so there would indeed be a bunge of highly compressed vapor that spreads out even in the vacuum of space. Wouldn't that be able to kill you if there is enough of it?

18:10 to 18:13 : With a BAC of 5%, you wouldn't just be dead, you would be turbo-dead; that's the kind of toxicity level where you would normally be expected to have died _long_ before you reached it, unless you were doing something bizarre like injecting alcohol into your veins. BAC values are normally given as POINT-something percent, because even just 0.4% _(4 parts in one-thousand)_ is a lethal dose for 50% of humans (LD50, for short). For reference, wines usually have an alcohol content of around 10% to 16%. Fun fact, the toxicity equivalent of the 5% BAC, for an average adult, would be taking about _one and a half kilograms_ of acetaminophen (or paracetamol, depending on where you live), or a little over 3,000 extra-strength Tylenol tablets. Also, for the whole wine-to-blood thing, there's the whole problem of not having any blood cells or equivalent to carry oxygen around, among many _many_ *many* other critical issues, so wine would make a rather poor replacement for blood.

Hey Kyle, not going to copy everybody else by saying “love your videos”, I know you’re running out of gestures😂, but you should know by now we love your videos😉! Anyways, you know how you said that Ironman’s suit, even if it were very thin would add up to much more volume, but because the suit is made of advanced nanobots what if they can assemble themselves into a less dense, porous structure?🧽 Like aerogel, which is 99.8% air and could create a thin strong layer out of some strong material, like the “vibranium cocktail” that Ultron was made of, and when it’s time to go in Tony’s “compheartment” then it increases it’s density to fit in. 🤓 If Ironman man had a nanobot suit with a thickness of a centimetre ,which sounds thick enough, then the total volume when Tony wears it would be about 20,000 cm3 and if 99.8% of it was air then the nanobots could squeeze back to a volume of 40 cm3 and would make a cube the size of about 3.42cm X 3.42cm X 3.42cm. A little bit smaller than a Rubik’s cube! That might be able to fit in his “compheartment”😁. Please forgive me if my math is wrong, I’m only a grade 9 kid and I didn’t even have a calculator, till the cube root part. 😔!

Im late to the party but concerning blood alcohol, our lab reports BAC in milligrams per deciliter. You are correct that for a normal person a BAC of 400 mg/dl (4% or legal terms 4.0)or above can cause death as you would most likely stop breathing. But i can tell you that being a 20 year veteran of clinical lab science (science rocks! And i love this channel) that i have seen individuals who are severe, chronic consumers of alcohol can reach levels over 500 mg/dl and live to tell the tale. Its all due to their enhanced ability to metabolize alcohol. Their livers are tuned up if you will. But that super power eventually fails as cirrhosis catches up with them.

If you scaled a human down, the risk would be freezing, not boiling. If, for example, you halved all of a humans dimensions, they'd have 1/4 the area to vent heat with, but with 1/8 the volume making heat.
