THIS was a great show! Like all things Canadian, it was low-key but clever! RIP John Candy..

Growing up in the Buffalo area, I was able to watch SCTV on Canadian TV. I'm hoping someday to run across an SCTV commercial about a beer whose slogan was "the beer that makes you drunk."

I loved watching SCTV, back in the mid 80's they showed all of these episodes on our local PBS station, channel 12 in Philadelphia.

PBS, Channel 2 in Minnesota, nothing many channels in my room but we had cable in the living room. I also watched Benny Hill on PBS also. Loved to go back!

I never forgot one skit I saw on the first episode of "Second City TV" I ever saw, which I think was its first season syndicated on independent UHF Channel 48 in Phila. - and you included it here! Not sure I ever caught a rerun of it over the years, but after watching this compilation I now see it was an episode of Gus Gusstofferson, Security Guard, complete with the memorable "dramatic" sound effects voiced by the main character (a very young Eugene Levy!), that English Language teacher character played by Catherine O'Hara, as well as the English-language-challenged recent immigrant played by Andrea Martin. All in all a cheap, silly parody of those Quinn Martin productions - satisfying my twelve-year-old funny bone. Hard to believe this was what began a long-term, loyal appreciation of what eventually became SCTV on network TV!

Thanks for sharing this! Remember fighting sleep as a kid trying to stay up late and watch. None of my friends at the time heard of this show. It still makes this 54 yr old laugh!
