Because I believe that Keith took this loss professionally and showed due respect to Pacquiao, I also think he deserves credit. In this situation it must be extremely difficult to be humble without hedging on the outcome, but I think that Keith did that as good as you can expect. He fought well overall and came back and fought better in the 2nd half like he said. I believe the fight should have been beyond his reach after the 6th round however, unless he scored at least one knockdown. I had Pacquiao winning all of the first 6 rounds, but Keith definitely won the 7th and at least 2 of the last 5 rounds. I didn't think it was a split decision, because even if you only give Pacquiao 5 of the first 6 rounds he would still have been ahead by 5 points after the 6th. He would only have needed one round in the last 6 to secure the win under those circumstances. Pacquiao definitely won the 10th round when he hurt Keith, that round plus a 6 to 1 lead after 6 rounds would have given him a total of a 7 to 1 lead, so if Keith had won all other rounds 7 thru 12 save for the 10th, he still falls short at 7 to 6 points. I also think that Pacquiao won 11 and 12, certainly he won at least one of those two rounds, so giving him just one of the last two rounds means an 8 to 5 win, which I think is about right. That's what 2 of the judges saw, a 115 to 112 score is the same as 8 to 5. No matter what, it has to be difficult for Thurman to accept his first loss, but he's likely gotten past it by now. Losing to Pacquiao particularly shouldn't be too difficult to accept. If he wasn't going to beat Pacquiao, then he did the 2nd best thing by fighting well, overcoming adversity 3 times, and then accepting the loss like a good sportsman at the end. If would have denied that he lost and made a bit of a scene over the loss, he would have taken away what he accomplished in the ring. The way that he carried himself with humility and acceptance added to what he did in the ring and will go a long way for him for the remainder of his career. Keith is dead center in his prime right now, and rather then Pacquiao challenging the 2 other lions out there, I wouldn't mind seeing a 6 man round robin type of thing between Keith, Bud Crawford, Errol Spence, Kell Brook, Shawn Porter and the last spot could be Manny Pacquiao unless his schedule didn't permit or unless he declined because he would be 42 or 43 by the time it was arranged and the tournament was finished. If Pacquiao didn't participate, there are a few guys that could be considered for the 6th spot . Either Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia, Amir Khan, Yordenis Ugas or possibly Marcos Maidana if he could be enticed to return by the level of the competition and if he could get back down to 147. The other guys I named could act as substitutes if one of the 6 guys had to leave the competition due to injury. If any of you saw the super six round robin that took place between 2009 and 2011, I thought it produced some interesting fights. If a tournament like this never happens between these top welterweights, then some of these great matchups may never take place. Errol Spence for example, probably will go up to 154 sooner then later, but he may stay at 147 long enough to prove he's the best at 147 if he knew a tournament of 6 guys had been arranged. I'm also not sure of Kell Brook's status, and he may also be going up to 154 unless this tournament happens. That means we would never see Brook against Thurman nor against Crawford, nor whoever was chosen as the 6th guy. This kind of tournament would also guarantee a fight between Crawford and Spence, one that everyone wants to see and that may never happen otherwise. If Spence no longer feels comfortable at 147 in a year or so, then we'll likely never see that fight, which would be a shame. What about Thurman against Crawford and/or Spence, there are 2 additional great fights that this type of tournament would produce. There are other intriguing possibilities in such a tournament, including a rematch between Brook and Spence, Brook and Porter, Thurman and Porter and other interesting fights. If only Pacquiao and Mayweather were 5 years younger or at about 32 or 33, what a tournament that could have been with those two and Brook, Crawford, Spence and Thurman and or Porter, with substitutes ready like either Porter or Thurman, Danny Garcia or Ugas. Those fights, about 11 in all roughly, would have been exciting for the fans and good for the legacy of all 6 guys, plus a huge money maker for all involved. A win-win-win situation, and one more win for the ultimate winner of the tournament. The excitement for the fans and all others associated would be at maximum level I believe. Even without the 2 biggest names ( Pacquiao and Mayweather ), the tournament would be the highlight of the coming decade in boxing I believe. Now is exactly the right time for this tournament because there are 6 great fighters right now in their prime, what more could anyone ask for? The super six held between super middleweights between 2009 and 2011 had good names in it but Arthur Abraham for example, was past his best, Andre Dirrell, Jermain Taylor and Michel Kessler all had to withdraw, which hurt the quality and overall excitement of the tournament somewhat. By that tournament's end a couple of guys were a little past their best, Froch was 34, Taylor was 33 and as I mentioned before, Abraham was past his best despite only being 32. The 2 guys that filled in for the guys that withdrew were 42 year old Glen Johnson and Allan Green, a good fighter but of a bit lesser quality then the original guys. In a possible WW showdown, you would have a better scenario with more equal competition between the 6 guys, all of them in their prime with Spence the youngest at 29, Thurman at 31, Crawford and Porter at 32, Brook is 33 and a few other possible subs or the 6th man like Khan who's 33, Danny and Mike Garcia both 31, Ugas at 33 and there are a few other names as well. Pretty much all of the 6 guys would be at their very best and that should produce some fireworks you would think. Only Pacquiao, at 40, if he could participate, would not be at his best but at 41 to 43, probably on par with the group overall, especially given his last 2 fights and that he was on his own level in his prime. I'm only thinking about how good it could be but realize that it probably will never happen. It would take a lot of work and negotiating to make it happen, but the fighters have to work their asses off in training so why couldn't politics and all other bullshit be put aside for once, in favor of the guys in suits working their asses off to get this done? I guess it's too much to hope for, .....you know,.....giving the fans something to look forward to and get excited about?
