Watching this I just realize we have too many stuff that we don't love and we don't use. Too much stuff that's the main problem of clutter. And *why we buy too much stuff* ? That's a huge soul searching question.

Can anyone enlighten me on Japanese or the language she is speaking? It seems as though it takes her ten times longer to say a sentence than english version of the sentence. That seems so exhausting.

I agree with the above. Also, the subtitles are greatly simplifying what she's saying. For example, at 0:26 the subtitle just says "That should be your goal: discard everything." Actually, at that time, she is saying a bit more, and talks about her philosophy on decluttering for books/papers/documents for a bit, saying it's not just that you should discard everything, but that you should start with that idea, putting all the papers aside as if you would throw them away, but then pick out carefully what you truly want to keep. This subtitle shortening in addition to everything taking longer because she's speaking more formally, makes it seem like she is expressing really long sentences compared to the short English subtitles.

I believe that's because she's speaking formally. Among friends and family they abbreviate the language to become more casual. For example when she says 'thank you' she says 'arigato gozaimashita' which is the polite way of saying thank you, and casually they may just say 'arigato'. Something like saying "thank you very much" and "thanks", etc.

I think they are having the other one translated into audio device in their ear or there editing around a translator just telling them what the other is saying
