If you want to try something that is historically accurate but easier to understand, get the book by American Duchess. www.amazon.com/dp/B07KVR5HMK/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1

For a visual tutorial, see Bernadett Banner. She went to, and of course filmed, an evening out to watch an actual hair style being done. Go!

I love this because it really shows how much the English language has changed throughout the years. Imagine trying to read Old English compared to this. This is probably middle English, maybe old modern English.

This is not how you make papillote curls. You don't wind the hair around the paper. You wrap the paper around the curl to protect the hair from the hot pinching tongs that you have just pulled from the coals. Janet Stephens has an excellent video on it if you're interested. idreporter.net/v/video-lP9PJsY5__4.html

A lot of those "f" letters are actually pronounced as "s" this was a little hard to watch because of that, but I endured anyway.

It came out good. But curling the hair doesn't make sense at all? I am not sure cause I am not a hairdresser.

  33. Abbi_timberwolf

    Abbi_timberwolf7 hari yang lalu

"which is the flirth you do" 11:00 its actually "first" but if you didn't know the alphabet used to be larger and the double f looking used to be what the letter s looked like :) so basically that tall f is 17th centurey s

Some fun facts: people in the 18th century didn't wash their hair very often, that's what the pomade and powder is for. It works like a dry shampoo and used with frequent combing and brushing kept their hair pretty clean. The way many women of that time achieved those high hairstyles was by using cushions in their hair. There were many different types and shapes and stylists would place the cushion on the ladies' heads and style their hair around it. They totally had clips. The reason why it's difficult for Brad to read the text is because English was written (and spoken) a little differently back then, on top of there still being no common standards in place for spelling, grammar, and penmanship.

Fun fact a lot of the time when doing hair like this they would use egg yolk to act as bobby pins because When it dries it hardens so it’s easier for the hair to hold

I don't understand why the hair had to be curled when there were no curls showing in the finished style? So entertaining, you are a one and only entertainer. I also like how many of your videos get added surprises, backgrounds or effects thrown in! So creative! Anyone that can encourage such laughter and smiles- whew is so needed in this world! We appreciate your hair advice given with such pizzaz and creativity!

My grandmother got her hair done once a month, she had a special pillow she used to keep her hair perfect. I swear it was never out of place! Her hair was Red and styled like Lucille Balls. Her hair dresser used corn starch or potato flour that had added red pigment.
