I know people are still gonna be upset about killing the python but after reading some articles they are doing more harm than good. On www.sfwmd.gov they stated "The South Florida Water Management District Governing Board is taking aggressive action to protect the Everglades and eliminate invasive pythons from its public lands. Starting in March 2017, the Python Elimination Program incentivizes a limited number of public-spirited individuals to humanely euthanize these destructive snakes, which have become an apex predator in the Everglades. The program provides access to python removal agents on designated SFWMD lands in Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, Hendry and Palm Beach counties."

Great work you did removing that python. I’m not bothered by the fact that they get killed because I know how big of a problem they are but if they’re endangered in their native country then why not ship as many Burmese pythons to Asia every once in a while? I think the population in Asia would grow that way

Rob schef somewhere in this video Jacob said that Burmese pythons have recently been put on the endangered list in Asia, but I do understand that it’s a huge risk to ship Floridian Burmese pythons to Asia because of parasites

  60. Rob schef

    Rob schef3 bulan yang lalu

@Nena unfortunately the risk of spreading parasites and other diseases found only here in the Everglades, far outweighs the benefits of increasing the population there. Also I don't believe there's a problem with the population in Asia, I assume they breed and populate there just as easily as they do here. They are also a food source for native animals in Asia that we don't have here, I know cobras, lions, leopards ect.. feed on them regularly.

  61. Jacob Feder

    Jacob Feder5 bulan yang lalu

Nena to many logistical problems. Even if they were give a clean bill of health, there could be an underlying pathogen that was not detected and could infect the native population of Burmese pythons as well as other wildlife in Asia

  73. Ella Heasman

    Ella Heasman5 bulan yang lalu

Jacob Feder wow so the snakes that made it to the everglades kept breeding and making the population of snakes grow? I’m not from America so I wouldn’t know this stuff btw as we probably don’t have any illegal snakes in the UK but they kept breeding I guess?

  74. Jacob Feder

    Jacob Feder5 bulan yang lalu

Ella Heasman a breeding facility got destroyed here during hurricane andrew in 1992. Nearly 400 escaped and only about 75 were recovered. It wasn’t until around 2008 that python sightings became frequent. It is estimated that there is anywhere from 100,000-300,000 of them in the Everglades. There is no getting rid of them at this point, we can only manage the population.
