From an outsider's perspective, I haven't seen a much dominant African teams like the Cameroon and Nigeria of 1990s-early 2000s. Both Cameroon and Nigeria were stacked with quality players at every single position back then. Any game featuring the likes of Samuel Etoo, Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Patrick Mboma, Marc Vivien Foe, Geremi, Finidi George, Taribo West, Sunday Oliseh etc, IS A BIG AND HUGE GAME BY ANY STANDARDS. Pure quality from genuine legends. I'm a fan of both Cameroon and Nigeria but unfortunately their football has been deteriorating over the past decade especially Cameroon. Cameroon's future in particular look bleak as they don't seem to have any emerging youth talents as opposed to Nigeria.

Nigeria needs to scout around for a goaltender and 2 solid players in the back line. It should be a serious task that must be accomplished if this squad really wants to compete in a World Cup tournament.

  21. Ike Igbokwe

    Ike IgbokweBulan Yang lalu

What a display of courage and resilience? with 1 goal down our boys rose to the challenge and ensured the reigning defending champions are bundled out. Nigerian soccer showcased for the Continent of Africa to view. Akpenyi lacked confidence and was jittery which exposed our weakness in the goal keeping area. Urgent change needed prior to meeting Bafana Bafana.

  22. Eternal Soldier

    Eternal SoldierBulan Yang lalu

You don't expect to go winning a tournament when your government headed by an 87 year old dictator Paul Bi Mvondo'o Biya in power since 1982, funding your t, has sent his army to the English speaking region and are actively committing a genocide in this part of the country simply because they ask for simple political representation. the blood of all the over 11,000 innocent women, children and young folks slaughtered, over 300 villages burnt to the ground using your Isreali, French, German, Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Spanish and USA donated weapons just to deliver the Etinde NewAge Oil patch concession to members of the so corrupt Security Council headed by shrewd UK to make them turn a blind eye on an active 2018-2019 genocide. Ambazonia shall be free in this life or the next because we are the never again generation. Homeland or Death!

@Eternal Soldier I'm sorry to know about the negative impact Buhari played, he has been a problem for Nigerians. I have few Cameroonian friends that told me about some the atrocities you wrote about. I hope things gets better.

  24. Eternal Soldier

    Eternal SoldierBulan Yang lalu

temmydizzle the best hope we had to fast track the process of normalcy was Nigeria but Buhari instead assisted the dictator to arrest our frontline leaders, some of them including refugees and naturalized Nigerians and send them back to Biya. How can anyone repatriate a refugee back to where they are running from? It’s about 2 years now they are still in jail even after the Abuja high court ruled they should be sent back to Nigeria over 4 months ago. The killing in English Cameroun is brutal, wicked and evil. Stella Damasus has tweeted about it so many times. You can google Ambazonia war of independence and see for yourself. The world especially the UN has abandoned us to a genocide fate but we refused to be killed like chickens that is why we’ve picked up weapons to fight back and defend our women and children whose only crime was asking for a federation as it was when we agreed to join French Cameroun. Regarding taking Biya out, you will need to understand the mindset of the dominant French speaking lacklustre majority who don’t care because France has brainwashed them since independence. At this moment, we will fight back to determine our fate or we all get killed. Maybe someday I’ll not be writing because my light was put out by the French terrorist military but my head, soul and heart will never bow to the tyranny of a majority.

Like uncle, like nephew as Okocha and Iwobi scored goals and eliminated Cameroon in 2004 and 2019 respectively. What's also noteworthy is that Cameroon was also the defending champions in both AFCON editions. Way to go, Iwobi!

  42. Germane Habib

    Germane Habib25 hari yang lalu

  44. Germane Habib

    Germane HabibBulan Yang lalu

@Quyền Văn Trường It's amazing how everyone keeps missing the point of my original comment....SMH! Whether the 2004 Cameroonian team was weaker or stronger than the 2019 team, it doesn't negate the fact that both were actual defending champions and yet uncle Okocha and nephew Iwobi scored against both teams and eliminated them from retaining their title. I was simply giving uncle and nephew props for repeating history. Sheesh! 🤦🏾‍♂️

  45. Quyền Văn Trường

    Quyền Văn TrườngBulan Yang lalu

But we should not dismiss the fact that Cameroon team of 2004 was way stronger than the current 2019 Cameroon team on paper. Cameroon was stacked with several quality players in every single position back then. I mean they were capable of fielding an almost complete world class team.

@Quyền Văn Trường once again, quit talking about topics you have no clue about. Do you have any idea how many Cameroonian top players were missing in the team that won the fifth crown. So please shut the fuck up. Your comment isn't welcomed here anyways, because we're talking soccer...not rice farming asshole.

  66. Quyền Văn Trường

    Quyền Văn TrườngBulan Yang lalu

Walter Kayesse Let’s not create false narratives now. I’d say it’s the absence of quality teams and world class players at previous tournament that possibly helped Cameroon win their 5th trophy in 2017. Maybe you are a bit disappointed that Cameroon got eliminated in Round of 16 but the current Cameroon isn't particularly a strong side. Some deluded Cameroonian fans seem to overrate Cameroon than they are actually because of their past achievements. I just hate it that people tend to overrate teams because of one or two outstanding star player or because of past achievements. The current Cameroon team is a top 10 team in Africa at best. Nothing special. And my original comment didn’t touch any subject of matter regarding Vietnamese football.

  67. My name

    My nameBulan Yang lalu

@Quyền Văn Trường 🤣🤣🤣🤣 like the saying goes in Africa " Chickens don't talk teeth's matters" for the obvious. The only time I've ever heard about Vietnam was during my elementary school years when my history teacher mentioned the Vietnam war. So shut the fuck up and and or talk about rice farming... because that's all your shitty hole country is known for. Sorrow ass!

Just give Cameroon some time to figure out the warfare in their country along with the dictatorship. Nigeria won’t stand a chance. Just look at the talent that has Cameroon lineage. Mbappe, umtiti, And Matip. In terms of production of talent, Nigeria is nowhere near close. This is with a population of 200 million vs 20 million as well.

This was exciting encounter, should have been in the semis at least. Just like I predicted, Cameroun is done. By the way what's up with the near empty stadium, Egypt can do better than this. Not only are they not turning to the matches, they issued minimal visas to people from other countries wanting to come to the tournament. Why host it?. If they get knocked out today, subsequent matches will be played in an empty stadium literally. Such nonsense.

@David N. Yes, that impending blown-out civil war is something that the Cameroonians should avoid. The leaders of the parties involved must sit down and have serious discussions about the issues that are at the origin of their divisions. These discussions must produce a plan to fix the issues, and start executing it ASAP. Given how most countries in Africa function, I don't hold my breath 😔.
