Highlights: Madagascar vs. Nigeria

Color green is accursed to Nigeria, nationally, politically, religiously, recreationally, and even in sports. I still don't believe Balogun could give away the first goal just like that. Green is the color of Islam, agriculture was never a reason for its conception as national color.

  32. Theophilus Akhimie

    Theophilus AkhimieBulan Yang lalu

People are quick to blame, yes a low ranking team won the game and that's the beauty of football. If you are not on top of your game, you would be beaten by any team. Football has gone beyond names now, names don't win you games no more. If you have a well disciplined, drilled & organized team, whether all their players play 5th or 4th tier of French league or not, you can beat the best. It's, unfortunately, a defender like Leon Balogun was defending that way (schoolboy error), instead of reaching out for the ball at first before shading the Madagascar player or to either play it back to the goalkeeper or simple play ball out to avoid the danger, defending was poor. The 2nd goal could happen to any team, its a deflection. But their overall play of the team was very poor, just 1 attempt at goal. It's an indication that the team and coaching staff need to wake up. No team is easy to beat, if you are not on top of your game, you will be beaten. Now they get to play a harder team in the next round. They better sit up or they get beaten. Even teams like Brasil struggled with a ten man Paraguay team. they won with penalties at home soil. Argentina struggled to get out of their group before the advanced to next round. No teams are easy to beat now. Gone are does days, you beat minnows with huge scorelines.

  33. Theophilus Akhimie

    Theophilus AkhimieBulan Yang lalu

@tk007e Good point bro, if you don't pressurize how can you score?

  34. tk007e

    tk007eBulan Yang lalu

Excuses, excuses! Somebody has to pressurize another team into making mistakes in order to score. Nigeria was unable to pressurize Madagascar.Madagascar is NO joke!

This is d problem I have with most of u useless, foolish, ignorant, blinded, overreacting and quick to judge Nigerians. Nigeria lost and so? Is this d first time nigeria has lost to weak teams? It is even better they played and lost bcos if they had played very well and lost or even win most of u idiots will have one negative complaint against them, mheeen, I hate u guys with passion for ur urgent conclusions on d team. Can't u wait until they finally leave d competition and then u can lay ur blame on them? Do u ever think Madagascar players would fold their hands and legs and watch nigeria just defeating them? U call Madagascar small team, there are no minnows anymore and I dont care how u see it. If the eagles are not playing well that does not call for all these negative conclusions and u call urselves so called football gurus. This was the same way most idiots like u blasted d Nigerian team in south Africa and they ended up winning d game just bcos they also drew or lost their first game. If u call urselves good football analyst, u dont right off a team due to their performances, all u can do it to point out their errors and profer a possible remedy to it and when u do this u do it calm and in a sportsmanship attitude without any iorta of negative comment or insulting d players or even concluding that a team will not go far. Upon d whole football matches and surprises for football most of una de watch yet una never get sense say football na so e de b sometimes. I know say as I don talk these things now say nigeria finally lose for round of 16 one idiot go come this page to come talk anyhow to e full family without first understanding wetin I talk. Allow them finish d competition first and c where dem go reach before crucifying or concluding that they won't do well.

This is one of the big surprises in AFCON. Bravo Madagascar! I like the Super Eagles of Nigeria. But today I am disappointed at the very poor performance of the Super Eagles. Why did the coach change the lovely team that defeated Guinea? That lovely team could have at least obtain a point from this game or even win the match. Could this surprise defeat of the Super Eagles motivate the team to win future AFCON matches? I hope so. But let us wait and see. In any event, I wish the Super Eagles good luck in their future matches.

  57. Josue Dong

    Josue DongBulan Yang lalu

@Jima Alex LOL im only saying it how it is. Nigerian coatch left his entire A team on the bench and thats a fact, obviously they underestimated Madagascar and it cost them dearly. Now Nigeria has to face either Ghana or Cameroon in next round which means exit for Nigeria. As for Madagascar, enjoy it while it last because the team is mediocre. By the way im not a Nigerian, im an Indomptable Lion.

Nigeria was up against the better organize team. Nigeria bang on individual talents way too much. Can someone tell me why this coach (Rohr) continue to use the same formation? Switch it up. The midfield is horrible. Etebo and Mikel are best thing Nigeria can produce? NDIDI is the only midfielder deserving of a midfielder shirt. Play to your strength. We have a lots of attackers. Tell Ndidi and Mikel/Etebo to just stick to defending. The wingers cannot even cross the ball LMAO I like how all this Nigerians will start to blame the coach and not realize that this Nigeria team is really not that good. Look at the squad.

  79. Jerome Louis

    Jerome LouisBulan Yang lalu

@ginger That is why I said Good luck with that earlier because I am realistic and I really don't believe it will be ok with Nigeria after Ghana. Anyway they have to beat Ghana first.

  80. ginger

    gingerBulan Yang lalu

@Jerome Louis : I agree with you 100% that Egypt is the favorites, In fact they have won the most number of AFCONs. To make things worse, this is not a very talented Nigerian team, With that said, I think if they play with confidence/their ability and their coach (Rohr) actually uses he brain well and is tactical, Super Eagles can cause an upset. Maybe, I am just being delusional as a fan and the Eagles will be out in the QF but I believe in these Eagles ...

  81. Jerome Louis

    Jerome LouisBulan Yang lalu

@ginger The only way to beat Egypt home is during a final other than that I can assure you it won't happen. Do you remember the last Black African country to win Afcon in Maghreb ? I am sure you don't. Well I think it was Cameroon in 1988 in Morocco after that in 1990 Cameroon reached the Final in Egypt but were defeated in 2006 Ivory coast reached the Final against Egypt in Egypt and were also defeated. There is no way Nigeria will pass Egypt at that stage I can bet my house on that.. Nigeria will play very well they might even get to penalty kicks but they won't win .

  82. ginger

    gingerBulan Yang lalu

Jerome Louis : Well, that is the plan. Nigeria is surely the underdogs (I hope you know what that means?).

  83. Merveil Meok

    Merveil MeokBulan Yang lalu

Before 1975, everybody was beating Nigeria. Senegal was below average and 80% of the teams in the continent were trash. By the 1980s-1990s Nigeria has become a super-power, and countries like Kenya, Senegal, Burkina Faso have emerged as good teams. My point is if you don’t pay attention, you will miss the next wave of emergent team led by Madagascar, Uganda, Mauritania, Tanzania, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Sudan, etc... Remember, countries that invest the most get the best results. Period. Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia, Morocco, Cameroon, Egypt were resting on their laurels while everyone else was improving year after year. Do you remember what happened to Iceland in Europe? The same thing is about to happen when Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast will lose to weak teams of the past like Madagascar, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde, Central Republican of Africa and others. There was a time when those West African teams were beating those two team by 7 or 8 goals. Power teams in the 1960s like Ethiopia, Sudan did not invest and all of West Africa caught to them and now they need to invest or else. Small teams have local championship financial sponsors, youth academies, well trained coaches who are paid a lot of money so that those teams can compete with the lazy overpaid professionals with big names from Europe. Welcome to the new world of African football. In 4-6 World Cups an African team will challenge to win the World Cup.

  84. Merveil Meok

    Merveil MeokBulan Yang lalu

Luis Willis - For Africa to be in WC final, a team has to have 9 to 11 players in the starting team and be deep. I am thinking: at least at the level of current Netherlands, France, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, (and maybe England, Portugal). I am watching this African Nations Cup now, and I see 3 to 4 teams African teams that can go beyond the knockout phase in the World Cup but they still lack quality players to go deep. Having Mohamed Salah and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet doesn’t guarantee a World Cup. Also, remember, some of the best “African” players (via European birth or outright poaching of the outstanding talents) play for France, Portugal, England, and surprisingly, more and more for countries that NEVER lined up black black players. The minute that African teams start to go to the semi-finals in the WC the other teams will play harder and FIFA and their referees will do everything to favor European teams, Brazil and Argentina. My opinion is that for Africa to win the World Cup, a country would have players among the top 100 in their roster, just like current World Cup winners. It’s going to take many years to CONSISTENTLY to do that by planning, not just chance.

  85. Luis Willis

Nigerian players simply lacked the moral ability to refocus. That is maybe the most important aspect a team can have in an AFCON. Remember how Cameroon came into the 2017 tournament and were not even mentioned as a team to get out of the group stage? Then they faced Senegal who were said to be the favorite and beat them in the head, did the same to Ghana, then came back from 1 down and demoralized Egypt in the same manner. The Nigerians just didn't have it. Ghana normally shouldn't be a problem for them but if they play like this and give up as soon as they make one mistake, they're definitely going home next match.

@Yaro Sketches , no need to insult to prove a point. If you don't know something just be humble and ask. Don't go assuming things. This tournament has 24 teams unlike previous editions so the rules are different. 4 of the best 3rd place teams will also qualify for the 1/16th stage. The rules you are referring to does not hold here. As he said, Ghana will play Naija if we also finish 2nd in the group. That is a fact.

How's Nigeria facing Ghana if the placed second in their group...ghana's best shot in their group is also second..# dumb ass Simple and common sense shows that Cameroon will most likely win Ghana's group hence naija vs Cameroon.."you dumb ass

Rohr said in April, his team is in a tough group despite being pitted against 2 debutant nations as small as a Local govt area in Nigeria. Again, days before the tournament he says his team his not a favorite to win AFCON, and hopes to a semifinal berth. Meanwhile, Madagascar coach armed with low level professional players said, his team can beat the Super Eagles, and they did. Only in Nigeria. If l told my employers that a task against newbies would be tough, that was my last day on the job. But we know how it is, corruption is a stronghold. They are all beneficiaries of bogus contracts.

@Oberyn Martell that's the point you still missing my new IDreporter friend. Talking about your last point, it's not about Madagascar goals, as l said in my first submission, any team could score goals, it's about who scores more. Where are the Nigerian goals? Not even attempts? Only 1 on Target from a midfielder. Against a Madagascar. That's the point. So if they played Portugal or England or France or Germany, in same mentality, they would be no where past the center line? And from the look of things, you seemed to not have been following this particular coach before this tournament. It's not what he says to the press, it's simply what he says and doesn't say at all times. And what he does on the pitch. He has an "average performance satisfactory" mentality. And l hope l keep up with you going forward, and I'll like to see what you say when your Canadian girls lose 2:0 to Republic of Benin girls with zero attempt on goals in a FFWC!

@Ayodele Lawal It doesn't matter what the Burundi coach says, not all coaches are the same and will not use the same talking points when addressing their teams. Where were the criticism about how he played down the favourite tag after the Eagles won the first two games? This is just a knee jerk reaction because the team lost to an underdog. Coaches will always down play that tag even when the book makers have them as heavy favourites. They will always say how it's going to be a tough game or a challenge even when we the fans know that's not true. I could care less what the coach says publicly to the media or public, it's not as important as how he addresses and prepares his team when the cameras aren't there. Not trying to take away for the team, but Madagascar scored two freak goals. It's not the end of the world

@Oberyn Martell I'm glad we have a common ground on team motivation as per Nick Nurse, and on team selection. Truth is, I'm a Nigerian obviously passionate about soccer and basketball, by the way u guys dealt with my team GSW this season and I respect that. But I'm not a win it at all cost maniac. However, if you know anything about the Nigerian Super Eagles performances since the days of Rohr, it's been nothing other than luck, individuals wanting to avoid the shame every now and then. No consistent game plans attributable to the coaching style or tactical know-how. Experiment after experiment including in-tournament experiments. Decent? Maybe in his private life, but as a coach for the Super Eagles, l believe in comets, maybe I'll see that coaching decency someday too.
