When you did the cell references. I couldn't get the number for the Operating Income. It's telling me to go to the spreadsheet settings for the calculation. I don't know how you got the number for the Operating Income.

Great tutorial but didn’t find what I’m looking for. My source gives me data In Minutes:seconds and but it always treats it as hour:minute even when I set the format to Minutes:seconds it just adds a :00 to the end and treats it as hour:Minutes:seconds hiding the hour. Example Don McLean - American Pie-8:33. If I put this into a table instead of the duration being 8 and a half minutes. It would automatically say that the song is 8 and a half hours long. Does anyone know how to resolve this apart from changing everything everytime I pull the data.

  13. Prolific Oaktree

    Prolific OaktreeBulan Yang lalu

If you are bringing the data in with a function, how about dividing it by 60 as you bring it in? Or, if you can split apart the minute and second values, bringing the two values into the TIME function as the MINUTE and SECOND values. Just a few thoughts.

Can I set up an import range of future data that will import from another sheet every time that sheet is updated?

  15. Prolific Oaktree

    Prolific OaktreeBulan Yang lalu

Try pointing the IMPORTRANGE function at the cells that are empty now. I would think it would update once they get values. There are more robust ways to do it if you need something more flexible like I show in this video. It just depends on what you are looking for. idreporter.net/v/video-caR-K-ykgYo.html

There have been lots of updates since this video but I am not sure if any of them would change the subjects this video went through. The interface had some slight changes to conform with "material" design, there were checkboxes added, insert images into cells, and see history of changes in a cell to name a few that I can think of off of the top of my head.

How to find out who access my spreadsheet and also a single sheet in it

  52. Prolific Oaktree

    Prolific Oaktree5 bulan yang lalu

Try clicking the circle that's in the upper right of the screen now. I think it's newer than this video. That shows some history of who accessed the file. You can also try version history from the File menu.

  53. Stephen Doty

    Stephen Doty5 bulan yang lalu

Another bad example of the Sheets software now is the difficulty in making a simple chart. Say, the bond yield over consecutive weeks. It makes columns for the weeks rather than setting them as notches on the x axis for a graph, so you get two columns; then when you try to graph the line, it makes two lines. It's like they can't understand the simple chores you need to do. It should make one line with the weeks as the x axis number line. Gosh. They keep it all hidden and most arcane.

  54. Stephen Doty

    Stephen Doty5 bulan yang lalu

The edit functions on Google sheets SUCKS! It's designed poorly. Simple things like editing column width are too hidden when they should scream at you with simplicity. And it's easy to lose data and not be able to retrieve it. It's frustrating to work with. Google engineers dropped the ball on making this user friendly need to get with the program!!!

  55. Stephen Doty

    Stephen Doty5 bulan yang lalu

@Adam Steinfurth OK thanks. I saw that later. It should say "width" for clarity not "resize" in my opinion, and it should be in the "format" menu. Luckily, I was able to hit "undo" a few times to get my lost data back, from trying to move the columns with the separator. For those who learned Excel, it is unintuitive. Plus, the "help" function is worthless on width. That needs to be changed by Google. I wish Google never was allowed to buy IDreporter -- they ruined it. They suck. They fired James Damore for fake reasons too. They should be sued by the government for their misdeeds.

  56. Adam Steinfurth

    Adam Steinfurth5 bulan yang lalu

Resize column - hover over column separator by letters at top, left click, drag. Lose data - Undo or File -> Version history

At 26:09 Isn't easier just to use this formula for the average total for D14? =sum(D12/D13) I don't understand why some use over-complicate formulas when with just a simple one its done. Unless I missing something in that case please feel free to enlighten me.

  66. Omar Feliciano

    Omar Feliciano5 bulan yang lalu

@Prolific Oaktree I'm new to Excel/Google Sheets thanks ofr the info. I was thinking this one =(D12/D13) BTW Thanks for the vid and all the info I've been watching a lot of videos always being fascinated with spreadsheets programs and all the things we can do with them. I still have to learn a lot of functions and stuff. Enjoying every bit of it.

  67. Prolific Oaktree

    Prolific Oaktree5 bulan yang lalu

Your formula is saying "add the quotient of D12 divided by D13". The SUM functions wants at least two items to add together, but your formula just gives it one, which is the quotient of the division problem. I think you're headed down the path of how arrays work, when the function can be executed on a range, but that's not what happens in basic formulas.

I'm very devastated by using office apps by Google. My Google account was hacked and I was shut out from my own account. Google says I changed password, which is impossible because I have only one password because I can only remember one password at a time, so I don't change my password. Google can be hacked and is not foolproof. If I changed password, Google should have informed me that an attempt to change my password is being carried out. No warning, no notification. My point is that, I used Google apps to record all my transactions, years of transactions. Now it's all gone because I can no longer access all my word and Excel files that I created through Google sheets and Google docs. I advice using third party doc and worksheet apps that are stored in your phone where you can back them up. I trusted Google would store my data but my files are gone forever. Unsecured by Google.

    Joel Smith8 bulan yang lalu

Issak, in the comments to Phoebe below, I noted that I'd created a test spreadsheet that's publicly available to explain some of these concepts (and to allow anyone to test their formulas on a new sheet in that document; an even better resource, though, is the GoogleDocs Forum). I created a page to show you how the live translation formula works, because I'm really curious if it is a live version you're having trouble with. The spreadsheet is here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vS5wIR1EepaUIYLT8S4i29G9CgxN5Dy1RpDYSLqFFNdkv4cjVMKeZxZsuMPh9DFKkpRUZLqIswpaqKR/pubhtml

  105. Joel Smith

    Joel Smith8 bulan yang lalu

Isaak are you printing from a "live" data set (like you'd use if you were doing live translations of text using this formula"=GOOGLETRANSLATE(text, [source_language, target_language]")? I've never seen the problem, but maybe it would happen with a dataset that's a live feed (meaning it's interacting regularly with a server). To make a static data set, copy all the columns you want to print into a new sheet (by clicking the + sign on the bottom left). When you paste the data, use EDIT ▶ PASTE SPECIAL ▶ PASTE VALUES ONLY. Then you'd want to print from THAT sheet.
