Whether ronaldo or messi fans both fans have to admit without hesitation that ronaldo should be on top on this specific chart xD this guy clearly showed lousy sportsmanship in his biased behaviors. He should take a lesson from the juventus fans who gave ronaldo a standing ovation for his bicycle kick even though the goal was against their team. Sometimes we have to take away our pride and preferences to recognize true football when we see it ;-)

So this bald guy's logic is he would send Messi to an even inferior international team (Venezuela) in hopes he can lead them when he can barely carry Argentina over someone who has actually carried an inferior team to international titles based on the fact that he has more international goals.... oh wait he doesn't. Based on international goals disregarding the friendlies, was it? Oh my not even close. Seriously, what do these guys smoke man?

It could be argued going by the final deciding factor - that Portugal have won a major tournament and Argentina haven't during the Ronaldo & Messi era... Argentina have been in more finals and Ronaldo got injured early in the final that Portugal won. So winning the 2016 European Championships didn't come down to Ronaldo, he was not on the field, his team got the job done without him. Ok Argentina have a record of losing finals but I'd definitely argue that if Portugal had been in the 2014 World Cup Final, they wouldn't have beaten Germany. Ronaldo does have the superior goal tally in international football and even though Messi is two years younger, I don't expect him to beat Ronaldo's goal record for Portugal. Messi is the more natural goalscorer though. He broke numerous goal records in the earlier stages of his career including Gerd Muller's record for most goals in a calendar year. Now Messi plays deeper, more like an attacking midfielder - still scored 51goals in 49games from midfield last season! Ronaldo has less desire to be part of the build up and wants to score! He's in his mid 30s now and not a flying winger anymore. For most players the natural evolution is to drop deeper and get more involved in the game as they get older. CR7 - having rejected requests from several managers to play as a striker throughout his 20s, now plays there because he doesn't have the legs to cover the same ground he used and get into those central areas. His movement off the ball and his finishing are his main points of focus now. He will continue to score until he's no longer able to run.

  22. Peter Fleming

    Peter FlemingHari Yang lalu

@Hoje Tive Cá he was on the touchline pointing around giving orders. He's not the manager and hasn't coached a game in his life and yet decided to do so in an International tournament final.

  23. Hoje Tive Cá

    Hoje Tive CáHari Yang lalu

@Peter Fleming I actually agree with you but not for the reason you think. He shouldn't have been allowed to do that and the 4th official should have stopped him but, personally, i don't think it had anything to do with ego: more like he HAD to try and help, to do something ... anything ... and that's what he came up with.

  24. Peter Fleming

    Peter FlemingHari Yang lalu

@Hoje Tive Cá helping his teammates get psychologically prepared for a penalty shootout is ok. What he was doing on the touchline while he couldn't play was WRONG! He had no business doing that. That was just his ego, his need for attention and he was undermining the manager and coaching staff. Yes he was on the field briefly but didn't do anything in that game.

  25. Hoje Tive Cá

    Hoje Tive CáHari Yang lalu

Ronaldo WAS on the field ... in the bench ... trying his best to motivate his fellow teammates on the pitch. He couldn't contribute within the game so he did the best he could to motivate his teammates from the outside: i like to think he succeeded in helping them throughout the final, but it's just speculation on my part. And that wasn't the 1st time during that Euro either: against Poland, while selecting the Penalty takers, he had a hand in motivating João Moutinho to step forward. These are the actions of a true leader.

Dunno where exactly but i've seen claims of Messi having more goals scored VS countries in the top 50 FIFA rankings ... so i went and checked for myself ... but with a small twist: i only counted COMPETITIVE games (non-friendlies) and took today's FIFA ranking as a template (not the ranking @ the time of the match). With that disclaimer out of the way, here's what i found: Messi scored 28 goals in 91 games VS countries in the top 50 of FIFA's rankings CR7 scored 37 goals in 117 games VS countries in the top 50 of FIFA's rankings What do you know: Messi has a goal ratio of 0.308 VS CR7's 0.316. Messi did score more (a lot more) VS countries in top 50 FIFA rankings but a significant portion of those goals were scored in friendlies. EDIT Had missed a goal for Messi.

People forget that South America has only has 12 teams competing and among those 12 with the exclusion of Japan and Qatar, all are in the FIFA top 30 ranking . Comparing their international performances in different competitions is so not fair.

  50. Rowan ,

    Rowan ,22 hari yang lalu

This guy is saying that he would rather messi than ronaldo in the venesualian team. This is so biased because ronaldo was the only good player in portugal before and look where he brought them now. Messi has been in Argentina with a good team around him all the time yet this man says he would have more success with bad teams. Ronaldo has proved he cant make any team good while messi has always stayed at good teams.

RAED TV 2022 hari yang lalu

  52. Agustin Acosta

    Agustin Acosta23 hari yang lalu

80% of messi's international goals come from top 50 international teams while only 29% of ronaldo's come from top 50 international teams. Quick maths reveals thats 56 of messi's goals and only 29 of ronaldo's goals sooooo if you look at that statistic it actually completely discredits what is said here. Just another reason why it's obvious americans know very little about fútbol and tend to favor Ronaldo due to an inherent misunderstanding of critical factors of the game

  53. Hoje Tive Cá

Hoje Tive Cá21 hari yang lalu

@Agustin Acosta I didn't get my point across properly, i think: obviously, the ball doesn't magically get from defense to the goal scorer's feet / head. What i'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter how many dribbles, key passes, whatever else you do if your team doesn't score because, @ best, that will give you a tie but, if the opponent scores, you lose. CR7 learned that @ RM, in his early years there": his play style was a joy to watch back then but his team's effectiveness weren't "up to par" with the aesthetics of his exibitions. He changed his approach to one much more effective that took away "most of the flair" but one that delivered results for the team, putting to use all the resources he has (ambidextrous, great heading, athleticism, intelligence). It's "visible" in the amount of goals he started scoring since around 2013 or so (National Team) because his goal ratio skyrocketed @ around that time.

  54. Agustin Acosta

    Agustin Acosta21 hari yang lalu

@Hoje Tive Cá right goals do and key dribbles, assists, key passes are also a metric of goal creation and contribute to a players effectiveness, if that wasn't true there would be no value in creative player which as we all know isn't true. I think Messi recently due to mismanagement (for as long as I remember in argentina and the past few years in Barcelona) has had to become much more involved in the creation of play out of necessity. While Ronaldo has always had players around him who occupy themselves with the creation of play. Which allows him to focus more on goal scoring and also because of his stature Ronaldo also has more versatility as a pure striker. Despite that Messi is as effective on the national level as a goal scorer as Ronaldo. This considered, again my personal preference is Messi, but I recognize it's a conversation of preferences, because they are different types of players.

  55. Hoje Tive Cá

Hoje Tive Cá22 hari yang lalu

@Agustin Acosta Dribbling doesn't win games nor does passing: goals do. The real difference between Messi and CR7 is that one's style of play is pretty to watch (Messi) while the other is more pragmatic, focused on the end result rather than the aesthetics of it (CR7). As i just showed, @ National level (and assuming i didn't mess up with the goals VS FIFA rankings @ time of the games), both are equally effective.

  56. Agustin Acosta

    Agustin Acosta22 hari yang lalu

@Hoje Tive Cá like I said I could only be sure of what you are saying by reviewing the numbers myself but assuming it is true, then the takeaway in my opinion is that nationally their goal scoring ability is comparable which would negate my original point, but all things considered, even though I prefer Messi I honestly think his edge is not in his goal scoring but his dribbling and passing which is out of the scope of the discussion

  57. Hoje Tive Cá

Hoje Tive Cá22 hari yang lalu

@Agustin Acosta That still gives 28 goals for Messi and 35 goals for CR7 instead of 37 for goal ratios of 0.308 and 0.299 respectively. The roles reverse with Messi slightly ahead but it's a far cry from the supposed dominance. Messi "lost" some goals but gained the same amount while CR7 "lost" more goals than he "won". Messi does dominate but NOT in competitions where ... you know ... he's actually competing for a trophy recognized by FIFA.

Well Messi fan here ( LM10 is better than CR7) but still I never understand why some people are trying take away Ronaldo's achievements. First thing is messi is plays a deeper role for argentina so he is not going to score that many goals and second thing to be honest Messi always had a better team at his disposal just look at these names: Dybala, Aguero, Di Maria,Otamendi, Icardi Mascherano, Higuain and Messi himself. Ronaldo had him and Pepe, nani Quaresema and nowadays Bernardo and a young joao felix and none of these names are that big. Also there are others who play against those weak teams you are talking about why don't they score these many goals. Yes I am a Messi fan but its unair to not give Ronaldo his credit. It makes no sense.
