Not how to build a greenhouse, it's how to spend $50,000 on a conservatory. I worked in all of the various aspects of horticulture over the last 40 years and no one not even the rich builds a glass greenhouse, because after the first spring storm you'd be replacing every pane of glass thanks to hail.

  5. Torbjörn Åhman

    Torbjörn Åhman12 hari yang lalu

:) Only $12,000 :) But you are right, I would never spend that money on something like this to only grow stuff in. We have had plenty bad weather but never had to replace any glass so far. It's 4mm hardened glass. Severe hail storms are not very common here...

I wonder if the building inspector will give me a permit for one like this. To bad some parts of Canada have some dumbass rules and regulations. This was a great build with many inspired ideas I'd loved to implement in my into my back yard!

Feel free to come to the USA at some point and build your smithy, your wood shop and your greenhouse here... on my property... then visit anytime. Lol

  13. Torbjörn Åhman

    Torbjörn Åhman21 hari yang lalu

About $12.000 and about a month. Assembling the actual house on top of the foundation probably took 2 days or so.

Beautiful house but, since you say it's not heated in winter, is it functional year-round? Do you not use it during the cold months? Without a heat source and insulation, it's hard to believe that the bricks would retain enough heat during sunny winter days to keep the plants alive at night until spring. Stunning construction!

  16. GatesCo1965

    GatesCo196526 hari yang lalu

@Torbjörn Åhman Too bad. It would make a wonderful "sun room", as it would be called in the U.S. Assuming the glass has at least some R-factor, with a space heater you'd have a cozy, bright place to read and relax while it snows outside. A gorgeous structure--typical Scandanavian attention to detail...

  17. Torbjörn Åhman

    Torbjörn Åhman26 hari yang lalu

It's not used in the cold months. You should check out one of my recent videos where we prepare it for winter.

What's your latitude? - I'm curious about the depth of your frost line.

  22. Torbjörn Åhman

    Torbjörn ÅhmanBulan Yang lalu

We are roughly at 56°, but the climate is quite mild compared to the same latitude in North America. To be absolutely safe you should be about 1m below the surface. That said it very much depends on the type of soil and how much moisture it binds. Here the soil is very lean with a lot of sand pebbles and stones, moraine basically.

Great looking and well done, but more like a sun patio than a greenhouse. I was expecting table rows of plants growing like tomatoes or some starting seedlings. This was NOT a greenhouse. Ending very disappointing.

  55. Torbjörn Åhman

    Torbjörn ÅhmanBulan Yang lalu

Tack! Jag vill minnas att det översta lagret leca är 120mm, samma som teglet. Vi använde marktegel till alltihop för att undvika att det skulle frysa sönder.

My goodness, the rocks. I bet the farmers have a time in the spring. My grandfather told me that little pebbles laid under the snow all winter and grew into big boulders. I believed him. That old farm had some rocks. Him and grandmother picked rocks every spring for 54 years.
