What are the best active Ant Keeping channels like Antscanada or just really good ones?

They look just like my Pheidole Dentigula. Located in the southeast quarter section of the US. The most selective/picky eaters ever! Almost nothing sweet. They seem disgusted by adult roaches. Flightless gnats/fruitflies are the best so far. An individual worker can carry away a fly on its own. Also they will hunt and chase around the live flies, which is great to watch. The gnats have soft bodies and so the ants really love it. Did you ever take up-close pics and have someone identify them? Which region/state? Great video, I subscribed! Thanks!

Give a few insects (ideally fruit flies) if your harvester species are semi claustral = they need protein to breed/survive at the founding stage. From hearing from various harvester keepers, it seems Kentucky bluegrass seeds are the best overall, they are small, easier for ants to crack open, and most species favor it. I got the Greenview Fairway Formula from Amazon. It has no coating, no filler, and are pure seeds. My nantic pogo californicus are extracting a good amount of them every day so far. Once my colony is more mature, I will start giving bigger seeds like sunflower seeds. At the same time, I will keep giving fruit flies once every week. Fruit flies may not be necessary, but will act as a backup food source. Started with 3 queens, now they have 4 nantics, 10+ eggs, 5 larvae, all in the span of 5 weeks. www.amazon.com/GreenView-2829352-Fairway-Kentucky-Bluegrass/dp/B07SP5NBBP/ref=asc_df_B07SP5NBBP/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=344041227836&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13230106375643481804&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014374&hvtargid=pla-769079945249&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=67585364605&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=344041227836&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13230106375643481804&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014374&hvtargid=pla-769079945249

My ants are resisting my efforts to get them into a different tube. They have decided a tube with chunks of dry dirt in it is the tube they want to live in. They won't go into a water tube. They ignore a tube with damp substrate and Mini White isopods in it. They are just stubborn ants. But the important thing is that they are _alive._

So that you don’t have to worry about injuring the fruit flies 1 by 1 you should take the amount you want and then refrigerate them. The go dormant and it makes it easer for both you and your ants. Or you can just freeze and then thaw them.

You’re really going to enjoy this colony. I have two of them and both queens are great mums. They are proactive with the eggs, larvae and pupae. They don’t leave all the work to the workers. Be aware that they are really sensitive to bumps and movements tho. They grab the babies and start running around. Enjoy. These are one of my fav colonies.

excellent video. i caught 4 acorn queen ants in july and they now have a nice pile of eggs and larvae. i recently caught a rare (for my area) pheidole queen, which i mistook at first for a lasius social parasite because of its big head and powerful mandibles. and just an hour ago i caught a brachymyrmex depilis queen. all ants were caught at night with a black light.
